Four Months Later...

Health Update. For those who read my blog post here, you will know that 17 weeks ago I made the big decision to change my life around. I have known for a very long time that I was heading towards a medical disaster if I continued along the path I had been travelling along. Essentially, I have long been addicted to food.

So under the guidance of a fabulous online course (Jason Shon Bennett), I have been learning how to view food, make food, and eat food differently.

Is it helping? I can definitely say a big 'OH YES'! This is a before photo of me...

And one taken yesterday, week 17 and I have lost 17 kilos...

From 124.4kgs to 107.4

Yes, I am starting to see some differences.

Is it time consuming? Initially it was very time consuming as I threw myself into learning all I could about eating without consuming processed foods, sugars, meats, dairy products and gluten. Learning to make my food from scratch does take some thought and planning. Now, I am finding it is becoming second nature, preparing colourful meals is also very pleasing visually as well as tasting amazing!

Is it easy? Not always. Some people I come across think I am crazy. Some times I 'fall of the wagon' and revert back to my old nature (not for long anymore thankfully). Some days I struggle and other days I breeze through it.

Is it worth it? YES! What I love is the incredible way I feel, the amazing energy I have found, how much better my sleep is, my blood sugar levels are getting better, my skin is better. This is a lifestyle now for me.

What has become easier, is the hold those cakes and chocolates, chips, cookies and confectionary had over me for so long is mostly gone. My cravings have reduced from attacking me all day every day, to now hitting me about once a week or so. I think the more I live this lifestyle, the less and less I will experience any cravings at all. Now that is good news!

I did promise to share the Chocolate Avocado Mousse recipe, however I have not had time to retest it yet. So I will add a link to this incredible dip that I found on Fork and Beans blog recently. I whipped this up for a dinner party of non-vegan friends and served it with organic corn chips...it was devoured. So delicious. It's called raw vegan 'Goat' cheese dip and you can see the recipe here. My only change was to use macadamia nuts as the 'cheese' instead of cashews.

On a totally different topic, while we (hubby and I) were out walking yesterday, we came across this gorgeous building (Felix at Dromana, Mornington Peninsula). I simply adore how they make their cafe/antique/gift shop stand out with all this eye-catching colour!

Isn't it fabulous?!

So as I was about to go for that second helping of chocolate your blog post came up in my feed......thank you once again for sharing and being inspirational. I'm so happy for you that you have found a 'new you' and are reaping the benefits of healthy living and eating. I can't imagine such a change in my life right now with little ones (I could certainly do with it though) but if I can take something little from what you are offering and sharing it is worth it for me. Thanks again and all the best moving forward. You look fabulous!

Congratulations. I read your first blog about it. Along with a friend losing weight, this inspired me. I started 7 weeks later - yes it took time to get motivated. I am trying to go it alone with my sister doing it to. I want something I can sustain for the rest of my life and have lost 6.5kg (not as spectacular as you!). But thanks for the inspiration

Keep going, YOU are worth it. Ask yourself this question before you eat something, "Will my body benefit from this food or will it harm me in the long run?" You instinctively know the answer so just throw out the bad and reward yourself with a good checkup at the doctor's office and 30 more years to live. Life is so worth living. Congratulations and don't get discouraged just keep moving forward.

AWESOME!! I know you've got to feel healthier with all those plant foods fueling your body. You should check out www.protectivediet.com she has some great recipes!! The nacho cheese sauce (she calls it something else as it is NOT cheese at all) is soooo good! The creamy Italian dressing is also good. I'm working my way through some of her recipes. Engine 2 website is also good as well as FatFreeVegan and DrMcDougall.com

Best to you!

Congratulations Cathy! You have a 'strong mind' to say no for all those things we like but shouldn't eat. My first thought is did you need to give up coffee. I know I should drink less coffee but I just don't want to leave it. If you tell us often about your your new life/eating style, perhaps it will be easier for us to start, too.
Have a great week and hapy sewings in your beautiful studio! x Teje

Well done Cathy. If you have a night out, and "fall off the wagon" just get straight back onto it the next morning. A treat every now and then won't hurt you, and will keep you sane. Lol!

That is fabulous Cathy. WTG. You look amazing. I, too, made a similar diet change back in May and feel so much better for it. Have you seen the Dr Libby books (Real Food Chef and Real Food Kitchen)? I have bought both hers and they are similar in tone to what Jason teaches. She's an Australian nutritionist who now lives in NZ and has amazing recipes. I will keep following your journey as you are so inspiring.

Well done Cathy- it is a journey to becoming healthier- I am on a similar journey because my body gave me no other choice ... My diet is changing and so is my shape. It is a wonderful feeling to move more easily and to find my clothes fitting loosely and then too big.
Wishing you continued success and good health. You are beautiful- it is nice to attain ones goals.

Well done you! I know how much hard work it is because I have 16 more kg to lose by this time next year...and I knew I was overweight too but until I was diagnosed as pre diabetic I ignored it. I've lost 6 kg and am going to a gym three times a week! I never thought those words would come out of my mouth...but it's all good. My blood pressure is amazing as well. It is win win! Keep up the good work.

Congrats on your new way of life! It is certainly the biggest change you can make, and boy it is so worth every bit. Everything is hard at first, but I often think now about how eating "clean" is the key to SOO many things. Eating processed foods our whole lives does certainly mess our bodies up. Eating whole, raw, non-gmo, organic foods even taste BETTER then the ones we were used too. I love your bravery. I will certainly keep rooting for you. Keep your head up. Dont let ANYONE discourage you. Well Done :))))))))

I know this way of eating too. Well done to get away from all the nasty foods. I'm sure they are laced with something to make people crave. Have you had a go at making snickers bars? I think it's on the web site you mentioned. Good luck Linda

Cathy, you look fabulous. I am so happy that you've lost your weight. I think I came to the same decision in July this year and I've lost 16 kilos. I have another 30 to go, but it will happen! Good luck on your food journey! Adele

In just 17 weeks?? Go, you!!!! :D What a fabulous change so far! I've dropped 45 pounds, but it's been a 2 year journey. I'm working on taking it down 20 more, but it's slow going for me. You're inspiring me to renew the efforts to inch downward again instead of just holding steady.

Cathy, congratulations. Having been 100kgs and losing 30kgs I know how difficult it can be to change our habits. It is definitely worth it once we retrain our biggest muscle, our BRAIN to know what is good for us. Keep on keeping on and kudos to you. A very strong woman!!!!!
